Department of Biology

Mission Statement

The Department provides a comprehensive educational program for three types of students: 1) those who plan to attend graduate school in various fields of Biology or professional school in medicine, dentistry, allied health, and other related areas; 2) those planning to enter secondary education; and 3) those who take Biology as part of their liberal arts education.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of coursework in the biological sciences, students will demonstrate an understanding of major concepts, theoretical principles, and experimental findings in biology. Students will also be able to employ critical thinking and efficient problem-solving skills in the following four areas: 1) Conceptual Knowledge in the Biological Sciences; 2) Biological Research; 3) Scientific Literacy and Communication, and 4) The Role of Science in Society.
