Graduate Graduation Requirements

Although each Master’s degree program has specific academic requirements, several requirements are common to all degree programs.

The general academic requirements for the Master’s degree are:

1. Admission to regular degree standing in a specific Master’s degree program must be granted.
2. All coursework applicable towards the degree must be completed within six years of the date of admission.
3. Transfer credits six must be approved by the student’s graduate program upon enrollment or before the course is taken.
4. All comprehensive requirements must be successfully completed. Requirements may differ according to the program of study.
5. Applications for graduation must be submitted at least one semester prior to the anticipated semester of graduation to the Office of the Registrar

Application for Degree

Students planning to graduate must complete the Application for Graduation for the degree by the deadline in the academic calendar on the Loo.  This date also applies to graduate students who plan to complete their work during the summer session. Students who have not applied for graduation by the deadline in the academic calendar may not be listed in the Commencement Program. If the student does not graduate in that semester, a new application for graduation must be filed by the deadline in the academic calendar. Graduating students must be enrolled at Tougaloo College during the semester of graduation. Graduates may contact the Office of the Registrar for Commencement Ceremony information.

The student must maintain good standing at the college.  The degree will be awarded only after successful completion of the degree requirements stated in the Graduate Catalog and specific Graduate Program under which the student plans to graduate, and final recommendation from the faculty and dean of the school.
