This course provides a critical examination of contemporary political theory, focusing on major debates and developments in political philosophy from the mid-20th century to the present. Using Colin Farrelly’s Contemporary Political Theory: A Reader, we will explore the contributions of key theorists such as John Rawls, Robert Nozick, Iris Marion Young, Michael Sandel, and others. Topics include egalitarian-liberalism, libertarianism, communitarianism, republicanism, feminism, deliberative democracy, and multiculturalism. Students will engage with seminal texts and examine how these theories shape and challenge contemporary political discourse.
